In the fabrication and processing of textiles, inevitably electrostatic charge is generated caused by friction of fibres, filaments, yarns and cloths against each other and against guides, rollers, eyelets, combs etc. In order to ensure an optimal processing speed and avoid shocks to personnel an active neutralisation is recommended.

Carding

During the mechanical alignment of the fibres in the card via oscillating comb or wheel brush, over the tambour in most cases a high amount of static charge is generated, leaving the fibre blanket adhering to the transfer belts or delivery rollers if not electrostatically neutralised.

Edge Trimming

Through cutting and friction of the trim waste it can get charged – the neutralisation of the trim waste prior to feeding cyclones in the edge trimming and collection ensures for a trouble-free removal of the waste..

Sizing

Prior to coiling, the threads should be statically neutralised because they tend to get charged by rubbing against each other during sizing, which can lead to thread rupture and irregular straight grain.

Seaming

During the production and processing of cloth and mesh these can become charged again and again and require static neutralisation to warrant a disturbance-free operation in the seaming machine.

Inspection Machines

When rewinding the fabric over the inspection table it can generate electrostatic charge caused by friction, leading to adherence to the desk and electric shocks to operators/inspectors if not neutralised beforehand.

Warping

In warping machines the filament is running through ceramic eyelets or combs which as side-effect can generate a static charge. This charge in turn can make the filaments interlock or repel, lead to fibre fracture or misfeeding to the warping bar, if no electrostatic neutralisation is enforced.

Creels

Caused by friction at the thread guides, at the creel and spool racks the unwound threads get charged and lead to balooning of the strands between creel and warping machine and should therefore be neutralised prior to leaving the creel.

Calandering

Moving fabric, yarn and non-woven material can become charged when passing rollers, pulleys and winders and needs static neutralisation for a subsequent clean, trouble-free processing and to avoid streaking.

Stentering

Electrostatic charge during the loading of textiles by the swinging arm to the frame can make the cloth be attracted by the frame, misaligned, remain adhered and attract dust and dirt if no prior static neutralisation is performed.
